dad core is so in
and I'm obsessed
I’m not ashamed to admit that seeing a bloke wearing flip-flops and micro shorts isn’t a huge turn-on, so let’s unpack the joy that is ‘dad core’.
For the record, this is not how my father dresses — let’s make that very clear. This is simply the style name, and it works. It’s relaxed, vintage-filled, practical, and workwear-inspired. Oh, and yes — it absolutely does requires a cap.
I hate to put men on a pedestal, but we’ve come a long way from grey Lonsdale sweatpants and a Superdry flannel — yuck. More often than not, I find myself looking to menswear for fashion inspiration. What’s the term? Dress like your crush? Guilty!
Being able to pull off a pair of basic jeans and a plain white t-shirt is quite the achievement — not something many of us can master. Although, it helps if you’re hot. Men like Jacob Elordi and Jeremy Allen White make it look effortless, and yes — they are hot. Brands like Carhartt, Loewe, and The Elder Statesman are in full force, helping dad core reign supreme.
It all dates back to the ’90s, when men were more daring with their style and dressing like a hip dad was everything. We’re definitely taking a U-turn and heading back in that direction — and honestly, I’m gagged for it.
If you’re looking for inspo, I highly recommend heading over to Pinterest and searching for images of Robin Williams — one man who nails this to a T. His patterned shirts and oversized blazers, paired with a classic pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers, have me instantly reaching for my Hawaiian shirts.
Other strong contenders from the era include (but not limited to):
Bruce Willis during his rise to fame and Demi Moore era
Harrison Ford
Woody Harrelson - the king of airport style
Tom Selleck
Jeff Goldblum (who is still the most iconic dresser)
Matthew Mcconaughey
So dudes, go search for the perfect pair of work pants and grab a bowling shirt or two, because I, for one, am very much in favour.
